April is officially underway, which means Spring is in full swing and it is finally time to for your kids to play outside. After being holed up all winter, the time of year when we all begin to thaw out and are able to shed the winter layers is always welcomed. Our Mom's Bunk House team understand how hard you work and how challenging the colder months can be when it comes to keeping your kids busy and entertained without destroying the house! Thankfully, Spring is the perfect time of year to get your kids excited about going outside. We've come up with a list of activities that will allow you and the whole family to enjoy the warmer temperatures, blooming nature, and sunshine that comes along with springtime. Most of these ideas are totally free as well, which is even better!
A picnic is a wonderful way for the whole family to get outside and experience nature and the springtime flowers. Head to the mountains, your local swimming hole, a nearby park, or even just your backyard! All you have to do is pack up whatever food you were planning on eating that day anyway, lay down a blanket, and enjoy the time spent with one another outside.
- Fly a Kite
What kid doesn't love to fly a kite? It may be a good idea to check out your local park to make sure there is a clear area that will allow you to fly your kites without getting tangled. Once you've done that, you can purchase a kite at your local Target or family store and get ready for some fun in the sun everyone will love.
- Go For a Bike Ride
Family bike rides are a great way to get exercise and spend quality time with one another outside. Check out your city's local trails or just go for a quick ride around your neighborhood; your kids will love the adventure and so will you!
- Plant Flowers
This is a great outdoor activity for Spring that will serve several purposes: you will get your kids outside doing something productive, and you will have a couple of cheap garden assistants! Visit your local nursery or greenhouse and pick up some inexpensive flowers your kids can help plant. Not only will they love digging in the dirt, but it will pretty up your yard in no time.
- Make a Bird Feeder
Constructing your own bird feeder is easier than it may sound. Simply cover a pinecone in peanut butter, roll it in bird seeds, and hang it in your yard. Your kids will love the task and will be even more excited when the birds start to show up!
- Backyard Camping
Similar to the picnic idea, you don't have to leave the comfort of your home to get a little camping in. Simply set up your tent outside in the backyard and let the kids play and enjoy a fantastic family night out under the stars and in nature.
These are just a handful of outdoor activities you can do with your kids this Spring that will have them loving the outdoors and stretching their legs from the long winter!
